March 13, 2016 marks the 60th anniversary of the film many people consider to be the greatest western ever made; 1956’s The Searchers about a Civil War veteran who embarks on a journey to rescue his niece from an Indian tribe after his brother’s entire family gets slaughtered. Set in Monument Valley, a favorite of John Ford’s the film showcases white racism towards Native Americans, and questions who the real savages are.
