Robert Rodriguez, in an interview with MTV, has confirmed the return of another cast member from the original Sin City for Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Rodriguez states that Bruce Willis will return as Hartigan in the film. The co-director told MTV, “Bruce is back, so you’ll be seeing him.”
Willis will join an ensemble that includes original cast members Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, and Jaime King with new cast members Dennis Haysbert, Alexa Vega, Jamie Chung, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Christopher Meloni, and Academy Award nominee Josh Brolin. Production is underway at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas.
In addition to announcing Willis’ involvement, Rodriguez gave some additional information about the film, including talking about Gordon-Levitt’s character and story in the film.
“It’s a new character. He plays a gambler, a very cocky gambler, who comes in and tries to beat the biggest villain in Sin City at his own game. The story’s called ‘The Long, Bad Night.’ He beats the wrong guy in a game and bad stuff happens to him.”
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For will also be presented in 3D when it’s released, and Rodriguez says it will blow our minds.
“We’re really playing with stuff because that’s a very two dimensional world and to see that stylization in 3D, it’ll blow people’s minds. 3D hasn’t been used like this yet.”
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For weaves together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales in which the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more repulsive inhabitants. The film was developed by Miller based upon his graphic novel, with a screenplay by Miller and Academy Award winner William Monahan. The film will be released by Dimension Films in the US and Canada on October 4, 2013.
