Columbia Pictures has announced the release date for 21 Jump Street 2. The action comedy will hit theaters on June 6, 2014. That release date puts the sequel, starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, up against the Michael Bay-produced Ninja Turtles.
21 Jump Street, released in 2012, was inspired by (and loosely continuing) the hit television series. The film starred Hill and Tatum as police officers Schmidt and Jenko. Joining law enforcement’s secret Jump Street unit, they made use of their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. Trading in their guns and badges for backpacks, the pair risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring, quickly learning that modern high school is a very different world than the one they recently left. The film earned $202 million at the worldwide box office.
Hill and Michael Bacall will again provide the screenplay with production likely to begin later this year.
