Variety is reporting that David Strathairn is in final talks to join the Godzilla reboot. His character in the film is said to have some form of military affiliation. If cast, Strathairn would join a cast that includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, and Juliette Binoche. Gareth Edwards (Monsters) will direct the reboot, which is slated to hit 3D and 2D theaters on May 16, 2014. Filming is expected to begin in March.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Frank Darabont had been hired by Legendary Pictures to write the final rewrite of the screenplay for the film reboot.
Toho’s Godzilla franchise boasts one of the most widely recognized film creatures worldwide, with a film series that includes 25 films over 59 years. Legendary Pictures has said that they intend to approach the film and its characters in the most authentic manner possible.
