Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy has added another science fiction veteran to their cast. Former Doctor Who actress Karen Gillan is the latest addition to the cast of the comic book film according to reports by The Hollywood Reporter. She’s said to be playing the lead female villain, though the specific role has not yet been disclosed. Gillan joins a cast that includes Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, Lee Pace, John C. Reilly, and Glenn Close. James Gunn is set to direct the film.
Gillan is most well known for playing Amy Pond for three seasons on the popular BBC series Doctor Who.
Part of Marvel Studios’ “Phase Two,” Guardians of the Galaxy features a script from Gunn, Chris McCoy and Nicole Perlman. It follows a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants. The unlikely cast of characters must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions.
