Lionsgate announced today that Summit Entertainment’s Escape Plan is moving from its previously announced release date of September 13, 2013 to the very crowded weekend of October 18, 2013. The move will now place the film in direct competition with the Carrie remake, Don Jon, and Seventh Son.
Escape Plan is directed by Mikael Håfström and stars Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jim Caviezel, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Vinnie Jones, Sam Neill, and Amy Ryan. In the film, Ray Breslin (Stallone), the world’s foremost authority on structural security, agrees to take on one last job: breaking out of an ultra-secret, high-tech facility called ‘The Tomb.’ But when he is wrongly imprisoned, he must recruit fellow inmate Emil Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger) to help devise a daring, nearly impossible plan to escape from the most protected and fortified prison ever built.
Lionsgate has also set an August 15, 2014 release date for The Expendables 3, which will again star Stallone. The previous installments have starred Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, and Bruce Willis. Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Nicholas Cage, and Milla Jovovich are reportedly in advanced negotiations to join the cast at the moment.
