Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - Theatrical Poster - Courtesy of Sony Pictures ClassicsDeadline is reporting that The Weinstein Company will produce an as-of-yet-untitled sequel to Ang Lee‘s 2000 martial arts fantasy Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The film is slated to begin production in May and will be based on a script from John Fusco. The Weinstein Company is reportedly in talks with Ronny Yu to direct the project.

While Crouching Tiger was based on the fourth book in Wang Du Lu’s Crane-Iron series, it is said that this film will follow the fifth book, “Silver Vase, Iron Knight”, which continues the adventures of Yu Shu Lien, a part played by Michelle Yeoh in Lee’s film.  At this time, it is unknown whether she or any other Crouching Tiger talent will be returning.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was released in December of 2000 and grossed over $128 million at the box office.  The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning four including Best Foreign Language Film.
