‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Beat Down Joss Whedon
Although ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’ grossed $1.4 billion worldwide in 2015, Joss Whedon felt burnt out by the experience of the project, and openly criticized the film’s final cut. “I was so beaten down by the process. Some of that was conflicting with Marvel, which is inevitable and a lot of that was about my own work and I was also exhausted, and we right away went and did publicity. I created the narrative – wherein I’m not quite accomplished at – and people just ran with: ‘Well it’s OK, it could be better, but it’s not Joss’s fault.’ I think that did a disservice to the movie, and to the studio and to myself.
“The things about it that are wrong frustrate me enormously, but I got to make an absurdly personal movie about humanity and what it means in a very esoteric and bizarre ways for hundreds of millions of dollars. The fact that Marvel gave me that opportunity twice is so bonkers and beautiful and the fact that I come off as a miserable failure is also bonkers, but not in a cute way.”

Lytro Camera on Display at NAB Show
Lytro’s light-field cinema camera prototype was shown at the 2016 NAB Show. More of a light field device than a true camera, the Lytro captures a holographic digital model of the scene at 300 times per second. In post, the director can then decide on things such as frame rate, aperture, and lens; giving the director choices previously only in computer animation. Currently, the camera is roughly as long as a full-size SUV, but Lytro hopes to get it down to a hand held size.
