Three Strangers (1946) Make a Wish to Kwan Yin for a DVD

Warner Home Video released Three Strangers on DVD. Jean Negulesco directed the film starring Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet, and Geraldine Fitzgerald.

‘Three Strangers’ Movie Synopsis

On the Eve of Chinese New Year in 1938, Crystal Shackelford brings two men back to her London flat that she’s never met before. Legend has it that if three strangers make the same wish before the idol of Kwan Yin as the clock strikes midnight, the goddess will grant their wish. The three decide to split a sweepstakes ticket on a horse race if it wins. Once they make their wish, the three go their separate ways. We then learn that each one of them has much turmoil in their lives. Crystal is using every means possible to either woo back her estranged husband or make him suffer like she’s been suffering. The alcoholic Johnny West is on the lamb from the murder of a police officer, and Jerome K. Arbutny schemes to get back the trust money he embezzled from a naive widow before she finds out her money is gone. As the three stories play out, the looming sweepstakes nears. Who wins? Who loses? Only Kwan Yin knows for sure.
