The Big Parade (1925) Marches Onto Blu-ray
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced the addition of the war drama The Big Parade to their upcoming slate of Blu-ray releases. The silent film was directed by King Vidor and George W. Hill and starred John Gilbert, Renée Adorée, Hobart Bosworth, Claire McDowell, Claire Adams, Robert Ober, Tom O’Brien, and Karl Dane. The groundbreaking 1925 silent film is currently available for pre-order online and will be available in stores everywhere beginning on October 1st.
In the film, Jim Apperson (Gilbert), the idle son of a rich businessman (Bosworth), impulsively joins the army when the U.S. enters World War I. He’s sent to France, where he becomes friends with two working-class soldiers: Bull (O’Brien), a bartender, and Slim (Dane), a construction worker. He also falls in love with a Frenchwoman named Melisande (Adorée), but has to leave her when his unit is moved to the front lines.
Complete technical specifications have yet to be detailed. The Big Parade Blu-ray will include several special features, including:
- 64-page DigiBook with comprehensive notes by historian Kevin Brownlow, plus rare original art, photos and advertising materials
- Audio Commentary by Historian Jeffrey Vance with director King Video
