Twilight Time has announced the release and details to the Blu-ray of legendary writer-director Sam Peckinpah‘s Major Dundee. The film stars Charlton Heston, Richard Harris, Senta Berger, Jim Hutton, James Coburn, Warren Oates, Ben Johnson, and Slim Pickens . The Major Dundee Blu-ray will be limited to 3,000 copies and will be available online and in stores beginning on April 15th.
Major Dundee tells the brutal tale of an ill-fated Civil War-era cavalry expedition into Mexico, starring Heston as an obsessive, ambitious Union officer hot on the heels of a rogue Apache chief and his murderous band. Also starring Harris as Dundee’s old friend and Confederate adversary, Berger as a potential love interest, Coburn as a grizzled, one-armed scout, and members of the Peckinpah stock company, including Warren Oates, Ben Johnson, R.G. Armstrong, and L.Q. Jones. This two-disc set features the original 122-minute theatrical release of the film, plus the 136-minute 2005 extended version. Major Dundee was released in March of 1965.
The Blu-ray release of the film will include several special features, including: an audio commentary with film historians Nick Redman, Paul Seydor, Garner Simmons and David Weddle; an isolated score track: Christopher Caliendo; the 2005 Re-Release trailer; an isolated score track: Daniele Amfitheatriof; silent extended outtakes; trailer artwork outtakes; exhibitor promo reel excerpt; an extended scene: “Major Dundee and Teresa”; an incomplete deleted scene” “Knife Fight”; and the original theatrical trailer.
