‘Deadpool’ Movie Summary

The summary below contains spoilers.
Deadpool (2016) In the 2016 film, Deadpool, Wade Wilson is a special forces operative who was once dishonorably discharged, and now works as a mercenary. He meets a prostitute named Vanessa, and they fall in love with each other. He proposes to her a year later, and the two become engaged. Suddenly, Wilson’s doctor diagnoses him with terminal cancer, but he doesn’t want Vanessa to helplessly watch him die. So he leaves her without warning.

Soon, a shady recruiter offers Wilson an experimental cure for his cancer. He agrees to try it, and is immediately taken to meet a man named Ajax and his sidekick, Angel Dust. Ajax injects Wilson with a serum designed to awaken latent mutant genes. Wilson is then subjected to many torturous days designed to induce stress and trigger those mutations. Nothing works though.

After Wilson discovers Ajax’s real name is Francis, he mocks him mercilessly, but Ajax gets the last laugh. He tosses Wilson in a hyperbaric chamber for the weekend. It intermittently takes him to the verge of asphyxiation, but doesn’t kill him.

Finally, this stress activates a superhuman healing ability within Wilson, and it cures his cancer. Unfortunately for Wilson, is also leaves him severely disfigured as if he were covered with burn marks all over his body. He manages to escape from the torture chamber, and attacks Ajax for the results, but he calms down a bit when Ajax tells him that his disfigurement can be cured. He lies, and take the opportunity to get the better of Wilson before leaving him for dead in the now-burning laboratory.

Wilson survives of course, and looks for help from the only person he can trust, Vanessa. However, he doesn’t reveal himself to her because he’s afraid of her reaction to his new face.

Wilson goes to his friend Weasel, and after talking with him, decides to track down Ajax for a cure. He becomes a masked vigilante known only as Deadpool. He then moves into the home of a blind, elderly woman named Al.

One by one, he finds, questions, and kills Ajax’s thugs until the recruiter filially reveals his location. Deadpool spots Ajax and a group of his armed men on a freeway. He kills everyone but Ajax. Then he demands the cure from him, but the X-Man’s Colossus and his sidekick Negasonic Teenage Warhead interrupt the battle. Colossus invites Deadpool to join the X-Men. Ajax takes advantage of this momentary distraction to escape. He finds Weasel’s bar, and learns about Vanessa’s existence.

Ajax finds and kidnaps her, and then heads to a scrapped helicarrier in a junkyard. Deadpool recruits Colossus and Negasonic to help him, and the two fight Angel Dust and several soldiers while Deadpool confronts Ajax.

During the battle, Negasonic accidentally destabilizes the equipment causing the helicarrier to slowly turn over. Deadpool protects Vanessa from the tilting ship, as Colossus carries Negasonic and Angel Dust to safety.

Ajax attacks Deadpool once more, but Deadpool overpowers him. Ajax smugly reveals there never was a cure, but despite that, Colossus pleads for him not to kill Ajax. Deadpool then kills Ajax, but promises to try to be more heroic going forward.

Even though Vanessa is angry and upset with Wilson for leaving her, she reconciles with him because really; how can you not love that face?
