‘Driving Miss Daisy’ Movie Summary

The Best Picture winner that Directed itself begins with Daisy Worthan (Jessica Tandy) having a car mishap in her own driveway ending up into the neighbors yard. License revoked she has difficulty getting around until her businessman textile company owner son Boolie (Dan Ackroyd) arranges a driver, Hoke Colburn (Morgan Freeman).

Not keen at first, Daisy is slowly chipped away for his acknowledgement as Hoke convinces her to let him drive her to the store after he follows her down the street. It takes some getting used to however Daisy soon realizes he’s here to help while keeping her strict outer shell.

  1. Surprised Do the Right Thing wasn’t mentioned in the Oscars of 1989 discussion. It was probably the best reviewed film of that year. siskel and ebert fumed that it didn’t get a best pic nominee. Spike Lee still seems bitter about it. many have talked about how the academy went for the safe film about race relations that year. Ironically a kindred spirit of Driving Miss Daisy, Green Book, is an oscar front runner today, while another spike lee movie, blackkklansman, may lose out again.

        1. What do you think of this film, Chris? I think it’s been a bit unfairly maligned over the years(for the reasons mentioned above)

          1. I only saw this film once shortly after it came out. I didn’t care for it much then, but I should revisit it as an adult though.

          2. An important part of this films legacy wasn’t mentioned – The In Living Color skit “Riding Miss Daisy”
