Surprised by your comments that Wellman didn’t like women, Chris. Looking through his credits for films I’ve seen and I see that He directed the original A Star Is Born, which had a great Oscar nominated performance by Janet Gaynor and a great screwball comedy with Carole Lombard called Nothing Sacred.
It’s been a while since we recorded this one, but if I remember correctly, he did some questionable things to women like slapping the a leading lady, and getting fired for it, but I think it’s more that he was a man’s man. We will be reviewing his film, Wings, in the future.
